Handmade Puppet Parades from Around the World Slideshow & Presentation

In celebration of the 3rd Annual Viroqua Harvest Parade, join parade artist in residence Soozin Hirschmugl for a look at Handmade Puppet Parades from around the world. In this informative lecture and picture show she will discuss the nature of what constitutes a Handmade Parade and focus on groups in England, Taiwan, and the US that are currently making celebratory community created handmade parades.

Dam Challenge Triathalon

The Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge Triathlon challenges participants to compete among the rugged hills of scenic southwestern Wisconsin's rural countryside and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Proceeds from this event benefit the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Education Program. 
Ancestral Foods Feast
6:00pm at the Driftless Bookstore
Don't miss this unique culinary experience featuring the finest of foods from the ancestors and the delicious bounty of nature. This is a benefit for the Driftless Co-Option Buying Club, the Driftless Herbal Exchange Network and the Transition Town Food Team.

Viroqua Chamber Main Street Annual Childrens Day at the Farmers Market 
8:00am - 12:00pm in the WTC parking lot
FREE Vendor space for children 12 & under.
Viroqua is the center of one of the greatest organic farming regions of the United States. Each Saturday over 50 farmers and vendors from across the countryside come into our historic downtown to sell their fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and nuts at the Farmers Market, which is sponsored by theViroqua Partners. Several local Amish families also come to the market to sell their handmade items. They bring beautiful baskets made with old-world craftsmanship. There are apple baskets, bread baskets, picnic and sewing baskets and toy chests. They also bring hand-woven rugs and wall hangings, and of course beautiful quilts in several colors, patterns and sizes. The Farmers Market opens the last day of May and continues every Saturday until the last Saturday of October.

Reedsburg Fermentation Fest
There’s something brewing in the crocks, kettles and jugs in Reedsburg, Wisconsin this fall. If it can be cultured or fermented, you’ll sample it and learn about it at the Reedsburg Fermentation Fest! From October 12 through October 21, the Reedsburg Fermentation Fest tempts the taste buds of those coming to town. The Fest features a series of tastings, cooking classes, and brewing seminars, celebrating local abundance.

A celebration of the harvest, featuring a hand-built, human-powered puppet parade, music, performance, local foods, and a fire circus.

World Food Day
“Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world” is the formal wording of the 2012 theme. It has been chosen to highlight the role of cooperatives in improving food security and contributing to the eradication of hunger. The official World Food Day theme, announced each spring by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), gives focus to World Food Day observances and raises awareness and understanding of approaches to ending hunger.

Harvest Challenge High School Cooking Competition
6-8pm at the Viroqua High School Cafeteria.

Sample school lunches prepared by students and vote for your favorite lunch.
This year’s competitiors include Viroqua, North Crawford, De Soto, La Farge, Kickapoo and Youth Initiative High Schools.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $3 for students.

Isthmus Food & Wine Fest

The Isthmus Food & Wine Festival features an amazing range of food and drink in exhibits, demonstrations, shopping and sampling. This new celebration of food & drink is planned as a two-day marketplace for products both new and familiar, as well as a delicious learning experience.

The Great Unleashing
2:30 - 6:30pm at the Viroqua High School gym
A celebration of some of the ongoing sustainability projects in the area, providing network opportunities to promote local economic growth and prosperity. Keynote speaker is nationally-recognized author, Richard Heinberg - world leading expert on climate change, peak oil and economic issues. Refreshments, fun, music, and various activities will abound. The event is open to the entire community.
